Fees and funding
Fees

*The Department for Education has announced that for the 2026 to 2027 academic year changes will apply to maximum tuition fees and tuition fee loans for approved (fee cap) providers. The tuition fee will increase to £9,790 for standard full-time courses. The government intends to lay out regulations implementing these changes in early 2026. These regulations will be subject to Parliamentary procedure.
In addition, we charge an administration fee to cover your UK-enhanced DBS check, health check and pre-course programme. Anyone who has already paid for a previous UK-enhanced DBS disclosure and signed up to the update service will pay a reduced fee.
We will send you further details about the administration fee once you have accepted our offer via DfE apply (the government's service for applications for teacher training courses: www.gov.uk/apply-for-teacher-training).
Funding
Below is the funding that is available for modern language teachers. You may be eligible for funding according to your degree classification and the language you wish to teach.
Bursaries and scholarships
Bursaries
How bursaries are paid
Your bursary is paid over a minimum of 10 months across the duration of your course. You will not need to pay tax or National Insurance on bursary payments. You do not have to pay a bursary back.
How to get a bursary
You do not need to apply for a bursary. When you apply for teacher training, we will check if you’re eligible for a bursary.
You will need at least one of the following to be eligible: a bachelor’s degree class 2:2 (honours) or higher/a master’s degree/a PhD.
We will assess your eligibility for the bursary and put this in writing as soon as possible. We will need to verify your residency status and your qualifications before we can make a recommendation to the UK government. You can find more information about bursaries in the Department for Education guidelines.
Scholarships
The scholarship for languages is offered by British Council. They set their own eligibility criteria and you will need to apply to them directly.

The British Council is running an information session in February where you can learn more about the scholarship and application process from the British Council team.
